Oriental Air Bridge
Oriental Air Bridge was a Japanese regional airline that operated from 1955 to 2010. It was based in Kagoshima Airport in Kagoshima, Japan, and primarily served domestic routes within Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's four main islands.
Oriental Air Bridge was known for its distinctive bright orange livery on its aircraft, which became a recognizable sight in the region. The airline operated a fleet of turboprop aircraft, including the Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner and the Bombardier Dash 8, which allowed it to serve smaller airports with shorter runways.
The airline provided essential air connectivity to remote and less populated areas of Kyushu, contributing to regional development and tourism. It also played a crucial role in connecting various islands within the region.
However, Oriental Air Bridge faced financial difficulties and challenges in the early 2000s due to factors such as declining passenger numbers, increased competition, and rising fuel prices. As a result, the airline suspended operations in 2010 and filed for bankruptcy.
Following its closure, other airlines and operators stepped in to fill the void left by Oriental Air Bridge, ensuring continued air connectivity in the region.
