Virgin America
Virgin America was a U.S.-based airline that operated from 2007 to 2018. It was founded by British entrepreneur Richard Branson and was known for its unique branding, stylish aircraft interiors, and innovative amenities. However, in 2016, Alaska Air Group acquired Virgin America in a deal worth $2.6 billion.
After the acquisition, the Virgin America brand continued to operate independently for a while. However, on April 24, 2018, Alaska Airlines announced that it would retire the Virgin America brand and merge its operations into Alaska Airlines. The two airlines completed their integration on January 11, 2018.
Today, the airline is known as Alaska Airlines, and it continues to operate as a major carrier in the United States, serving various domestic and international destinations. The merger with Virgin America allowed Alaska Airlines to expand its route network and strengthen its presence on the West Coast of the United States.
